Semaglutide 5 mg — stabilised GLP-1 receptor agonist studied in incretin pharmacology, glucose-dependent insulin secretion and satiety signalling research. Lyophilised, batch-tested.
Semaglutide 5 mg — the GLP-1 analogue that set the modern metabolic research benchmark.
Semaglutide is the most extensively referenced incretin analogue in current literature, and it now functions as the default comparator for any new metabolic peptide candidate. Supplied as a 5 mg lyophilised vial, batch-tested and sealed for laboratory use.
What is Semaglutide?
Semaglutide is a synthetic 31-amino-acid analogue of human glucagon-like peptide-1, engineered for durability. Two features define it: amino acid substitution at the position normally cleaved by dipeptidyl peptidase-4, which removes the principal degradation route of native GLP-1, and conjugation of a C18 fatty diacid via a spacer, which drives reversible albumin binding and dramatically extends circulating persistence. Mechanistically it is studied as a GLP-1 receptor agonist, engaging the incretin arm of glucose-dependent insulin secretion and the gut–brain signalling that governs satiety. Its degree of characterisation is what makes it so useful as a reference compound.
Research interest
- GLP-1 receptor pharmacology — the standard reference agonist in incretin receptor studies.
- Glucose-dependent insulin secretion — investigated in beta-cell and islet models.
- Appetite and satiety signalling — studied in preclinical work on gut–brain axis regulation of energy intake.
- Body composition and energy balance — of interest to researchers examining metabolic substrate handling.
- Peptide half-life engineering — a definitive case study in albumin-binding fatty-acid conjugation.

Handling & storage
The fatty-acid chain that gives semaglutide its stability also makes the molecule surface-active, so it foams easily and concentrates at air–liquid interfaces where aggregation begins. Handle it gently throughout. Keep the vial sealed, cold and dry, and equilibrate to room temperature before opening so condensation does not reach the cake. Reconstitute under your laboratory's validated protocol by running solvent slowly down the inner wall and allowing passive dissolution — never shake or vortex. Confirm a clear, particulate-free solution before use. Store reconstituted material refrigerated and protected from light in low-binding single-use aliquots, and avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycling.
