Thymulin 5 mg — zinc-dependent thymic nonapeptide studied in T-cell maturation, immune modulation and neuroimmune signalling research. Lyophilised, batch-tested, EU-sourced.
Thymulin 5 mg — the zinc-dependent thymic peptide behind immunology research.
Thymulin is one of the defining compounds of classical thymic endocrinology: a nonapeptide whose biological activity depends entirely on a bound zinc ion. That metal dependence makes it an unusually instructive research tool. Supplied as a 5 mg lyophilised vial.
What is Thymulin?
Thymulin is a nonapeptide produced by thymic epithelial cells, and it is one of the clearest examples in immunology of a hormone whose function is gated by a trace metal. The peptide is biologically inactive in its metal-free form; coordination of a zinc ion induces the conformation required for receptor interaction, which is why the literature distinguishes carefully between thymulin and zinc-thymulin. It is studied principally in the context of thymic function and T-lymphocyte maturation, and it also appears in neuroimmunology research examining communication between the thymus, the hypothalamic–pituitary axis and inflammatory signalling.
Research interest
- T-cell differentiation — investigated in models of thymocyte maturation and lymphocyte development.
- Immune modulation — studied for its role in immunoregulatory signalling networks.
- Zinc-dependent biology — a reference case for metal-gated peptide activity in endocrinology.
- Neuroimmune crosstalk — of interest to researchers examining thymic–hypothalamic signalling.
- Inflammatory pathway research — applied in preclinical work on cytokine and inflammatory mediator regulation.

Handling & storage
Zinc dependence dictates the handling protocol. Avoid chelating agents such as EDTA in solvents, buffers and cleaning residues on glassware, since they will strip the coordinating metal and leave inactive apo-peptide behind; where zinc coordination is part of the experimental design, buffer composition should be specified deliberately rather than inherited from a general-purpose recipe. Keep the vial sealed, cold and dry, and equilibrate to room temperature before opening. Reconstitute under your laboratory's validated protocol, running solvent gently down the vial wall and swirling rather than vortexing. Store reconstituted material cold and dark in low-binding single-use aliquots and avoid freeze–thaw cycling.
