GHK-Cu 100 mg — the copper tripeptide behind decades of regenerative research.
Few Peptides have accumulated as much literature as GHK-Cu, the naturally occurring copper-binding tripeptide first isolated from human plasma. It remains a cornerstone compound for laboratories working on matrix biology, wound models and skin science. Supplied as a generous 100 mg lyophilised vial.
What is GHK-Cu?
GHK-Cu is the copper(II) complex of the tripeptide glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine. The histidine residue gives the sequence an unusually high affinity for copper ions, and it is this peptide–metal complex, rather than the bare tripeptide, that most of the research record concerns. Because copper is a cofactor for enzymes involved in connective tissue assembly and redox handling, GHK-Cu is studied as a delivery and signalling motif rather than as a simple ligand. Its characteristic deep blue colour in solution comes directly from the coordinated copper centre and is a useful visual indicator of complex integrity.
Research interest
- Extracellular matrix biology — investigated in models examining collagen and glycosaminoglycan turnover in connective tissue.
- Skin and dermal research — a long-standing tool compound in in-vitro fibroblast and keratinocyte work.
- Copper transport and homeostasis — of interest to researchers examining how peptide carriers shuttle and present copper ions.
- Gene expression profiling — used in transcriptomic studies cataloguing broad expression shifts associated with the tripeptide complex.
- Cosmetic science formulation research — studied for stability and compatibility behaviour in topical model systems.

Handling & storage
The copper complex is the point of the compound, so handling should protect it. Keep vials sealed, dry and away from light, and avoid contact with strong chelators or reducing agents in glassware and solvents, which can strip or reduce the coordinated metal. Loss of the distinctive blue colour in solution is a practical signal that complex integrity has been compromised. Allow the vial to reach ambient temperature before opening to prevent condensation on the hygroscopic cake. Reconstitution should follow the laboratory's own validated method, with solvent run gently down the vial wall and the vial swirled, not shaken. Hold reconstituted material cold and protected from light, aliquot for single use, and avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles.
