KPV 5 mg — three amino acids, one of the most studied anti-inflammatory motifs
Lysine-Proline-Valine is the C-terminal tripeptide of alpha-MSH, and it carries a remarkable amount of the parent hormone's immunological activity in a fraction of its size.
What is KPV?
KPV is the tripeptide sequence lysine-proline-valine, corresponding to residues 11 to 13 of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone. Its research significance is that it appears to retain much of alpha-MSH's inflammation-modulating character while being stripped of the melanocortin receptor activity responsible for pigmentation effects. That separation of function — anti-inflammatory signalling without pigmentary signalling — is what makes KPV a distinctly useful research tool. Literature describes its interest in relation to NF-kB pathway modulation and cytokine expression.
Research interest
- Inflammatory signalling — investigated in research contexts examining NF-kB pathway activity and pro-inflammatory cytokine expression.
- Gastrointestinal models — studied in preclinical work concerned with intestinal mucosal inflammation and epithelial barrier biology.
- Dermatological research — of interest to groups examining skin inflammation and epidermal cell responses.
- Structure-activity relationships — a leading example of how a minimal tripeptide motif can carry a parent hormone's functional core.
- Antimicrobial peptide overlap — referenced in literature exploring the intersection between immunomodulatory and antimicrobial peptide behaviour.
Its small size makes KPV comparatively stable and easy to solubilise, which is part of its practical appeal in laboratory systems. Even so, tripeptide identity must be confirmed analytically — at this sequence length, contamination or incorrect synthesis is not detectable by inspection.
Specifications
- Content: 5 mg of active substance per vial
- Form: Lyophilised powder (vial)
- Purity: Pharmaceutical-grade, batch-tested and lot-traceable
- Presentation: Sealed, tamper-evident single vial
- Storage: -20 °C sealed; 2-8 °C short-term
Handling & storage
Store sealed lyophilised vials at -20 °C for long-term stability; short periods at 2-8 °C are generally tolerated during transit and handling. Keep vials sealed, protected from light and away from moisture and repeated temperature swings. The lyophilised tripeptide keeps well when sealed, dry and cold. Bring vials to room temperature before opening. Reconstitution should follow the laboratory's own validated protocol with a suitable sterile diluent; store resulting solutions refrigerated and protected from light.
