What is DSIP?

DSIP (delta sleep-inducing peptide) is a naturally occurring nonapeptide originally identified through work on sleep-associated humoral factors. It takes its name from the delta-wave EEG activity its discovery was linked to, and it has since been examined far beyond sleep itself — in stress-response research, in neuroendocrine regulation and as a probe in blood–brain-barrier transport studies, since it is one of the small peptides documented to cross it. Its short sequence and endogenous origin make it a useful reference neuropeptide when investigators need a naturally derived comparator rather than a synthetic analogue.

Handling & storage

DSIP is supplied lyophilised because the dry state is substantially more stable than any solution. Keep vials sealed, refrigerated and dry, and equilibrate to ambient temperature before opening so that condensation does not reach the cake. Reconstitution should follow the receiving laboratory's validated protocol; add solvent slowly down the inner wall, swirl gently and allow the cake to dissolve without agitation or vortexing. Reconstituted neuropeptide solutions are vulnerable to proteolysis, adsorption onto plastic surfaces and freeze–thaw damage, so aliquot into single-use volumes in low-binding tubes, keep them cold and dark, and thaw each aliquot once.
